CT: Fairfield County- Redding- Collis P. Huntington State Park

Activities: Walking, Hiking, Kayaking, Dog-Friendly, Picnic, Wildlife

I discovered this park in Redding when I started kayaking flat waters in July 2020. In addition to kayaking there appears to be many trails for hiking over bridges and around the water.

The journey starts going under a bridge

As it’s one of the few kayaking places in Fairfield county with several coves and opportunities for natural photo ops it quickly became one of my favorites.

There’s a small island with this unusual stone structure. Each time I noticed the area around it had many lily pads and there was often some type of wildlife to be seen.

We noticed a man and his dog in a canoe navigating the waters with ease and a great deal of familiarity. Felt like he was likely doing this for the last 30 years. He was a pleasure to bump into and I shared this picture with him which felt great.

Be Present Gift of the day.

Bottom line this is a great place for an easy paddle with wildlife. Very relaxing if that’s what you seek. I hope to try the hiking trails next.

But if while you search you need more excitement, try going in disguise! Embrace the unexpected.

Another Be Present Gift of the Day! Great time!
