NY: Hudson Valley- Rhinebeck- Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

I am honestly not an air show type of gal. Can’t say why exactly but on an average day that likely would not be something that might turn my head.

But this was a very clear day. It also happened to be the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.

It felt appropriate to acknowledge this day with others. The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrone show did a great job in that way with the National Anthem being sung to a military officer parachuting from the plane with the American flag.

They maintain over 60 vintage bi-planes and you can also catch a ride! On this perfectly clear day I would have very much enjoyed that and feel it would have been worth the $100 for such a unique experience if I wasn’t scared of heights.

It was lovely watching the families and young kids in awe of the planes and the spectacle. They do about 30 airshows a year and I was at the right place at the right time to have the experience. Fun for the full family.

Afterwards, I was fortunate enough to catch a sunset at Ferncliff Forest fire tower afterwards and was able to see one of those bi planes.

Another meaningful and magical day.
