CT: Fairfield County- North Stamford- Newman Mills Park

On Riverbank Road in North Stamford is a 7 acre park with a beautiful waterfall steps from the parking lot. Note that I read that you need a resident beach parking sticker to park here in-season. I should share right from the start that I have known of this park for 25 years and wasContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- North Stamford- Newman Mills Park”

I usually bring food with me on my jaunts. I prepare something easy at home and bring it along. Sometimes, however, I decide to pick something up along the way. The first time I went to this park it was on a whim. I have visited Gillette Castle three times and it’s been a unique experience each time. But the last visit on a misty day in the Fall was by far the best. CT: Litchfield County- Norfolk, Woodcreek Bar & Grill

About a mile from Haystack Mountain and a bit longer from Campbell falls, in the small town of Norfolk was this excellent restaurant. I enjoyed an ahi tuna salad which was delicious. CT: Fairfield County- Housatonic Rail-Trail – Trumbull (Pequannock Valley Greenway)

I found this trail when walking around at lunch when I first started working in Trumbull, CT in 2016. As a born and bread NYC gal I had not discovered all CT had to offer until I had already lived here for over 20 years. Soon thereafter I rediscovered my love of biking and thisContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- Housatonic Rail-Trail – Trumbull (Pequannock Valley Greenway)”

What’s not to like about this park. Short or long hikes, beautiful overlooks, kayaking, biking, wildlife and an awesome bridge with love locks and folklore. Not to mention it’s name, Lover’s Leap. From the Connecticut state website they share, the “ trails through the park will lead the walker through centuries of land-use history. CT: Litchfield County- Washington, GW Tavern

Coupling with a trip to Hidden Valley Preserve or Steep Rock Preserve, a great place to stop for lunch or dinner is GW Tavern. Situated on the Shepaug River, the tavern is quite popular based on the queue that appeared 1/2 hour before opening.
