NYC: NY Botanical Garden – Orchid Show

What’s great about returning to a recurring event is it gives you the opportunity to see the lesser obvious parts of the attractions. While we took in the bigger draws of this years orchid show – and they were stunning – I was intrigued by the patterned greenery as well as the cactus “snakes.” TheyContinue reading “NYC: NY Botanical Garden – Orchid Show”

MA: Berkshires- Lenox- Edith Wharton Estate- Nightwood

This was called Nightwood. It was also the night of a full Beaver Moon. The walk began down a path with music, lights and fog lighting up the woods leading up to the mansion. While I have not toured the actual estate, I loved the idea of a night walk around the property with colorfulContinue reading “MA: Berkshires- Lenox- Edith Wharton Estate- Nightwood”

CT: New Haven County- Meriden- Castle Craig

A 72 degree day in late October in CT and the full harvest moon is to rise on a clear night at a reasonable time. There’s so much to be done – work, cooking, cleaning and a list of to dos. But the town of Meriden was keeping the access road open to the CastleContinue reading “CT: New Haven County- Meriden- Castle Craig”

MA- Berkshires- Shelburne Falls

Along the Mohawk Trail you’ll find Shelburne Falls. Such a quaint small town with its famous and beautiful Bridge of Flowers. The hospitality at Shelburne Falls could only be matched by the beauty and care taken at the Bridge of Flowers with the changing colors on the mountain in the background. In addition to theContinue reading “MA- Berkshires- Shelburne Falls”

VT- Manchester Area-Mount Equinox Skyline Drive

Another Indian summer day. This Fall has been a bit unusual for predicting peak colors as they appear muted from the warmth of the season. NY: Dutchess County- Hyde Park- FDR home

An easy walk around the property of FDRs library and home has a lot to offer. A beautiful garden surrounds the resting place. Statues made from the Berlin Wall offered an area for contemplation and motivation with busts of FDR and Churchill. The horse barn had nameplates including one called the New Deal. His countryContinue reading “NY: Dutchess County- Hyde Park- FDR home”

CT- Litchfield County- Barkhamsted Reservoir

No wizard answered but magic seems to surround the Barkhamsted reservoir. Each time I visit the Saville Dam I’m drawn to its fantasy setting. The surrounding forest and sky appear to intentionally provide a complementary backdrop to the small castle at the center. On this day the sky and water appeared to create an illusionContinue reading “CT- Litchfield County- Barkhamsted Reservoir”

MA: Berkshires- Stockbridge- Naumkeag Public Garden

The first time I drove past these gardens they were closed. I was happy to be able to pre-register and walk the grounds on this August evening in 2021. The estate and grounds were donated to allow the public to have an opportunity to enjoy what this wealthy family experienced many year’s ago. Below isContinue reading “MA: Berkshires- Stockbridge- Naumkeag Public Garden”

Daniel Chester French was the sculptor of the famous Lincoln Memorial statue in Washington DC. How pleasantly surprised I was to find that they made a museum and art gallery of his former home in which there was another Lincoln statue of his displayed.
