Indian Wells became a state park in 1928. Unbelievably almost 100 years ago. It was one of the first state parks I went to when I first started traveling around CT just for having a bite by the Housatonic River. I heard of a waterfall however so I returned. I’m so glad I did! IContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- Shelton- Indian Wells State Park”

CT: New Haven County- Southbury- Bent of River
I knew after my first visit this past winter this spot was definitely one I wanted to see in the Spring. It certainly was destined to me as my guide turned out to be this turkey! No offense to the turkey who at times sought to gallop away as I quietly giggled trying to avoidContinue reading “CT: New Haven County- Southbury- Bent of River”
CT: New Haven County: Farmington Canal Trail- Southern (ECG- Biking)
The Farmington Canal Heritage Trail extends from New Haven to the Massachusetts border (84 miles). It follows the path of the former Farmington Canal and the New Haven & Northampton Railroad. It’s broken up into two main pieces- the Southern (New Haven to Southington) and the Northern (to MA). CT: New Haven County- Guilford (Bike 10, Hike, Eat!)
As a Type A, I try to get the biggest bang for my time and energy. Bike riding with scenic views is one of my favorite outdoor adventures. I take the time to map out routes which offer moderate effort rides with photo ops and good food stops. This 10-12 mile ride in Guilford providedContinue reading “CT: New Haven County- Guilford (Bike 10, Hike, Eat!)”
CT: New London County-Groton- Bluff Point State Park (Winter)
It was a clear day the day before another snow storm so I decided to drive out where I don’t often go. Out to New London County along the shore. I have hiked, biked and kayaked at Bluff Point during the warmer months but this is my first season seeking winter hikes. First, I takeContinue reading “CT: New London County-Groton- Bluff Point State Park (Winter)”
CT: Litchfield County-Goshen- Bantam River (Kayaking & Biking)
Kayaking down the Bantam River is likely my favorite venue. It is filled with character and opportunity to enjoy the wildlife with so many photo ops! The launch site is on White’s Woods Road and holds about 7 cars. It does fill up so keep that in mind. It’s also part of the White memorialContinue reading “CT: Litchfield County-Goshen- Bantam River (Kayaking & Biking)”
CT: Fairfield County- Redding- Collis P. Huntington State Park (Kayaking, Summer 2020)
Collis P Huntington State Park was my second kayak launch site. Bigger than the lake at Seth-Low Pierrepont but still narrow enough to feel safe and potentially see wildlife by the waters edge. Now that I am a bit more comfortable I decided to have a bit more fun! The beginning of the launch wasContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- Redding- Collis P. Huntington State Park (Kayaking, Summer 2020)”
CT: Fairfield County-Ridgefield-Seth Low Pierre Point State Park (Kayaking, Summer)
My first kayak launch was in July 2020. I chose a local venue in Ridgefield, CT with a small lake. It was a perfect first launch at Seth Low Pierrepont State park. Truth is I was nervous but I bought the kayak anyway because of the pandemic. I bought the kayak at REI. All theContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County-Ridgefield-Seth Low Pierre Point State Park (Kayaking, Summer)”
CT: Tolland-Union-Bigelow Hollow (Kayaking, Fall)
My favorite places to kayak are those with wildlife and interesting landscapes. There are two bodies of water at Bigelow Hollow for kayaking so I compared them. 2020 is my first year kayaking so I have a sit on top big plastic kayak to remain the most sturdy on the water so I can takeContinue reading “CT: Tolland-Union-Bigelow Hollow (Kayaking, Fall)”
CT: New Haven County-Southford Falls (Winter 2021)
As I am generally not a fan of the winter, I have had to do my research to continue my outdoor adventures in the cold. I had a gut feeling Southford Falls would be one of the locations I would enjoy. This state park is located on the line between Southbury and Waterford, hence theContinue reading “CT: New Haven County-Southford Falls (Winter 2021)”
