NY: Dutchess County-Dover Plains- Dover Stone Church Trail

A short path (about .5 mile) takes you to Dover Stone Church – a cool water cave with a waterfall. Keep in mind the signs take towards it and the final sign directs you to the other hiking trails to the left not reflecting you are to go to the right for the cave. OnceContinue reading “NY: Dutchess County-Dover Plains- Dover Stone Church Trail”

CT: Fairfield County- Trumbull- Parlor Rock Park (Spring)

Cascading falls and rock mountains and yet it’s Trumbull! Even biking in the rain turned out to be a great time at Pequonnock Valley Trail! Biking or walking this trail is a great experience in and of itself. However, pause and literally walk off the beaten path to find yourself taken back to another timeContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- Trumbull- Parlor Rock Park (Spring)”

CT: Fairfield County- Shelton- Indian Wells State Park

Indian Wells became a state park in 1928. Unbelievably almost 100 years ago. It was one of the first state parks I went to when I first started traveling around CT just for having a bite by the Housatonic River. I heard of a waterfall however so I returned. I’m so glad I did! IContinue reading “CT: Fairfield County- Shelton- Indian Wells State Park”

CT: New Haven County- Southford Falls (Spring 2021)

Rain in Spring means water . . . Falls! It was not a particularly warm day so off to Southford Falls in Southbury as the falls are not far from the lot. What I love most about these Falls is that they have multiple levels in a short distance and you can walk along sideContinue reading “CT: New Haven County- Southford Falls (Spring 2021)”

NY: Dutchess County- Beacon

It has been quite a while since I ventured outside of Connecticut. Not too far over the border is the town of Beacon, NY in the Hudson Valley. This town and its surrounding area has a little bit of everything- cute stores, museums, waterfall, restaurants, biking friendly and loads of hiking with spectacular views. IContinue reading “NY: Dutchess County- Beacon”

CT: Hartford County-Manchester- Wyllys Falls

Down the road from the grandiose Case Mountain Falls, a bit off the beaten path, is another set of falls worth finding. While the parking lot was full at Case Mountain, I decided to try and find Wyllys Falls down the road. An intentional but unmarked path can be found beside a guard rail. GoContinue reading “CT: Hartford County-Manchester- Wyllys Falls”

CT: Windham County-Putnam (Biking)

Awesome bike ride along the East Coast Greenway from Putnam to Pomfret and back. Start in town along the Quinipaug River and take rolling hills with farms to the Vanilla Bean in Pomfret and back for a bite at one of the great restaurants in Putnam. About 12-15 mile ride. I parked at the PriceContinue reading “CT: Windham County-Putnam (Biking)”

CT: Hartford County- Manchester- Case Mountain Falls

5 stone archways make up the bridge. Part natural and part man made by the Case family who owned a paper mill. You can walk right up almost into one of the archways peering at the water behind! I found a painted rock, “Brave” as I continue to climb the rocks for a better shot.Continue reading “CT: Hartford County- Manchester- Case Mountain Falls”

CT: New Haven County-Orange- Housatonic Overlook & Tucker’s Ridge

Finding new outdoor adventures and capturing unique photo perspectives has been my respite through these challenging and historical times. What I hadn’t anticipated is the wonderful response I have received and the positive energy it promotes. Introduced in my last adventure, I share another poem written by a lovely young lady with a beautiful freeContinue reading “CT: New Haven County-Orange- Housatonic Overlook & Tucker’s Ridge”

CT: Middlesex County-Middletown-Wadsworth Falls State Park

Waterfalls and rainbows! That’s what I found on this recent winter day at Wadsworth Falls State Park. From the lot I could hear and see the rushing of the water over the falls more dramatically than I think I have ever seen yet here. I assumed it was due to the weather now thawing theContinue reading “CT: Middlesex County-Middletown-Wadsworth Falls State Park”
